I pray that the Holy Spirit will settle your disputes and confusions regarding tithes and special day of worshipping.
Regarding the traditional day of worship and church-proclaimed thites among all various denominations (eg. 10% thites), this is what the LORD GOD speaks of it (against religious hypocrisy).
Hear the word of Yahweh,
you rulers of Sodom;
listen to the command of our God,
you people of Gomorrah.
‘What are your endless sacrifices to me?
I am sick of holocausts of rams
and the fat of calves.
The blood of bulls and of goats revolts me.
When you come to present yourselves before me,
[IN YOUR MAN-MADE CHURCHES]
who asked you to trample over my courts?
[CHURCH LEADERS TRAMPLE GOD’S REAL CHURCH, THE BODY OF CHRIST, FOUND IN THE HEARTS OF HIS CHILDREN]
Bring me your worthless offerings no more,
[NOT ANYMORE THE FOOD SACRIFICES OF THE OLD, BUT YOUR MONETARY THITES AND LOVE GIFTS TO PASTORS AND PRIESTS]
the smoke of them fills me with disgust.
[LOVE GIFTS TO PASTORS, AND OTHER MATERIAL OFFERINGS ONLY TEMPT THE RECIPIENTS TO COMMIT EVEN MORE SIN AND ABOMINATIONS TO YAHWEH DUE TO MAN’S INSATIABLE DESIRE OVER MATERIALISM]
New Moons, sabbaths, assemblies—
I cannot endure the festival and solemnity. [Greek: “festival” = “iniquity”]
Your New Moons and pilgrimages
[HYPOCRICIES HAPPENING IN CONGREGATIONS.
NEW YEAR, CHRISTMAS, HOLY WEEK, BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES, ETC.]
I hate with all my soul.
[GOD ABHORS CELEBRATION OF ANY DAY]
They lie heavy on me.
[THEY ARE ABOMINATIONS TO GOD]
I am tired of bearing them.
[SO GOD IS WEARIED BY THESE PRACTICES AND TRADITIONS]
When you stretch out your hands
[WHEN YOU RAISE YOUR HANDS IN CONGREGATIONS AS IF YOU ARE PRAISING GOD, WHILE DANCING LIKE PARTY ANIMALS AND SINGING SONGS NOT IN THE BOOK OF PSALMS; AND WHILE YOU CELEBRATE YOUR SPECIAL OCCASSIONS LIKE CHRISTMAS, NEW YEAR, ETC. WHILE GIVING THANKS TO GOD.]
I turn my eyes away.
[GOD CAN NOT EVEN BEAR TO LOOK AT YOU DO THESE THINGS]
You may multiply your prayers,
I shall not listen.
[YOUR PRAYERS BECOME MAMBLINGS TO HIS EARS]
Your hands are covered with blood.
wash, make yourselves clean.
[BLOOD MEANS HATRED AS IN BLOOD OF ABEL SPILLED BY THE HANDS OF CAIN OUT OF HATRED, ALSO A SYMBOL OF HYPOCRISY IN THIS VERSE.]
Take your wrong-doing out of my sight.
Cease to do evil.
Learn to do good,
search for justice,
help the oppressed,
be just to the orphan,
plead for the widow.
[THIS IS WHAT THE LORD GOD WANTS YOU TO DO, AND NOT CELEBRATE ANY DAY OR OCCASSION!!!]
THE TRUTH ABOUT SABBATH AND CELEBRATION OF SPECIAL DAYS
First of all, the Old Mosaic Law no longer applies after Jesus Christ. Jesus get rid of the old, carnal Mosaic laws and established the NEW, spiritual laws. So we must now focus on the teachings of the Lord Jesus, not so much more on the old Mosaic laws, but of course, we must also bear them in mind for reference and guidance.
Hebrews 10:9 and then he says: Here I am! I am coming to obey your will. He is abolishing the first sort to replace it with the second. And this will was for us to be made holy by the offering of his body made once and for all by Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ established a “better” covenant, because if the Old is sufficient already, there will not be a need for the New.
Hebrews 8:6-9 We have seen that he has been given ministry of a far higher order, and to the same degree it is a better covenant of which he is the mediator, founded better promises. If that first covenant had been without fault, there would have been no need for a second one to replace it. And in fact God does find fault with them; he says:
See, the days are coming– it is the Lord who speaks–
when I will establish a new covenant
with the House of Israel and the House of Judah,
but not a covenant like the one I made with their ancestors
on the day I took them by the hand
to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
They abandoned that covenant of mine,
and so I on my side deserted them. It is the Lord who speaks.
The LORD GOD abhors celebration of any special day (be it New Year, Christmas, Holy Week and Easter Sunday, etc.) or occasion (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.). That’s a plain and simple TRUTH! Because giving importance to a day or month or year or season is also one form of idolatry, since GOD is not bounded by time.
Galatians 4:8-11 Once you were ignorant of God, and enslaved to ‘gods’ who are not really gods at all; but now that you have come to acknowledge God– or rather, now that God has acknowledge you– how can you want to go back to elemental things like these, that can do nothing and give nothing, and be their slaves? You and your special days and months and seasons and years! You make me feel I have wasted my time with you.
Sabbath, or commonly known as the “rest day”, originated from the book of Genesis when GOD rested on the seventh day. Thus the establishment of the traditional practice of worshipping on the seventh day of the week, which they could not even agree on whether it be Saturday or Sunday.
However, not everyone knows that the real Sabbath was declared by GOD not on Saturday, not on Sunday, not even on any other day of the week, but TODAY! Everyday! When every time you feel like worshipping and praising GOD, by simple reading the Bible, or sharing the words of GOD with friends, that moment becomes your Sabbath.
Hebrews 4:5-8 The text we are considering says: ‘They shall not reach the place of rest I had for them.’ It is established, then, that there would be some people who would reach it, and since those who first heard the Good News failed to reach it through their disobedience, God fixed another day when, much later, he said ‘today’ through David in the text already quoted: ‘If only you would listen to him today; do not harden your hearts.’ If Joshua had led them into this place of rest, God would not later on have spoken so much of another day.
However, for the knowledge of all Christians, we MUST respect our brethren if they want to worship GOD on whatever day they prefer: be it Sunday or Saturday or whichever day of the week. We must not condemn them to be wrong or sinning for doing so. Whichever day is fine, says the LORD, as long as you don’t make it a habit, that you only think of GOD and worship HIM on a specific day you established for yourself. Saying to yourself, “It’s only Friday, not yet Saturday/Sunday, so I don’t need to worship GOD today. I will wait for tomorrow so I can be with my friends in church.”
However, it is well worth knowing that this verse does not promote pagan practices of celebrating occasions and seasons (Christmas, holy week, etc.). This was only explained by the apostle Paul with regards to choosing a holy day (NOT holiday) in worshipping the Lord. So DO NOT use this verse to justify your iniquity of breaking God’s command of abstaining from giving special treatment to specific days of the year.
Romans 14:5-9 If one man keeps certain days as holier than others, and another considers all days to be equally holy, each must be left free to hold his own opinion. The one who observes special days does so in honour of the Lord. The one who eats meat who does so in honour of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; but then the man who abstains does that too in honour of the Lord, and so he also gives God thanks. The life and death of each of us has its influence on others; if we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we dies for the Lord, so that alive or dead we belong to the Lord. This explains why Christ both died and came to life, it was so that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
THE TRUTH ABOUT TITHING
The origin of the practice of giving 10% tithes is from the Old Testament, which had been used by different denominational churches to justify their insistent demand for 10% of the member’s salaries or income, even though it is not lawful in the eyes of GOD in general. All bibles specifically mention 10%, however, in The Jerusalem Bible, there is nowhere the LORD GOD mentioned 10%, but only a portion of the tithes or ‘tithe of the tithes’.
Numbers 18:25-26 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said, ‘You are to say to the Levites: “When you receive the tithe from the sons of Israel which they must pay you and which I am giving you as your inheritance, out of this you are to set aside a portion for Yahweh, a tithe of the tithe.
Secondly, it must be well understood that Yahweh does not need any material things of this world, so the instruction to set aside a portion of the tithe was not to be given to Yahweh, but to Aaron.
Numbers 18:28 Thus you too will set aside a portion for Yahweh, of all the tithes you receive from the sons of Israel. You will give what you have set aside for Yahweh to Aaron the priest.
GOD commanded Moses to give for the Levites a portion of the offerings of the children of Israel because the Levites were instructed by GOD to perform special duties in HIS tabernacle (or altar, or contemporarily replaced by what we call now as “churches”). The Levites, today, are similar to what we call “priests” in Catholic churches and “pastors” in Christian denominations. The reason why GOD required the children of Israel to give to the Levites is because they literally have nothing in terms of material possessions, which is very unlike the “priests” and “pastors” of today who mostly are living in comfort. The only inheritance they have was the LORD, says GOD.
Numbers 18:20-24 Yahweh said to Aaron: ‘You shall have no inheritance in their land. no portion of it among them shall be yours. It is I who will be your portion and your inheritance among the sons of Israel. See, to the sons of Levi I give as their inheritance all the tithes collected in Israel, in return for their services, for the ministry they render in the Tent of Meeting. The sons of Israel must no longer go near the Tent of Meeting; they would be burdened with sin and die. To Levi belongs the ministry of the Tent of Meeting, and the Levites will bear the burden of their sin. This is a perpetual law for all your descendants: the Levites are to have no inheritance among the sons of Israel. The tithe that the sons of Israel set aside for Yahweh, I give the Levites for their inheritance. For this reason I have told them they are to have no inheritance among the sons of Israel’.
There are far too many discrepancies in contemporary bibles, including KJV itself which a lot of us consider as the oldest and most reliable English version of the Scriptures, as compared to The Jerusalem Bible. With regards to the topic being discussed herein, in regards to tithes, let me cite one example of the big difference the modern scribes intentionally have re-worded from the original language of the Book of Numbers.
Numbers 18:21 (KJV) And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Numbers 18:21 (TJB) See, to the sons of Levi I give as their inheritance all the tithes collected in Israel, in return for their services, for the ministry they render in the Tent of Meeting.
In TJB, Tent of Meeting means the tabernacle of the congregation in KJV. Nowhere did TJB mention the word “tenth” of the tithes which Yahweh gave to the Levites. Even a grade school student can easily differentiate the word “tenth” from “Tent”. Another notable difference, which I believe is the root cause of all these terrible lies regarding the “10% tithes” promulgated by all churches nowadays is in the following verse:
Numbers 18:26 (KJV) Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.
Numbers 18:26 (TJB) ‘You are to say to the Levites: “When you receive the tithe from the sons of Israel which they must pay you and which I am giving you as your inheritance, out of this you are to set aside a portion for Yahweh, a tithe of the tithe.
Again, a grade school student can easily point out the difference between “tenth part of the tithe” (KJV) and “tithe of tithe” (TJB).
It is clearly spoken by Yahweh, that this is a “perpetual law”, that only the sons of Levi must accept tithes and offerings, and the sons of Israel have no right to do such, or else they will die. Perpetual means forever, therefore this law is still applicable until today and tomorrow of our own generation. Therefore to all pastors and priests today who accept tithes and offerings, you must first prove yourselves to be descendants of Levi in order to do such, otherwise, you shall surely die!
Another important thing is, when you give offerings and monetary tithes, the same must be consumed among all the members of the congregation. Tithes are not for GOD, He doesn’t need them. Neither are they for the consumption of your church leaders, according to their desires, their allowances, etc. Tithes must be consumed and shared equally with everyone in the congregation, not just your priests and pastors.
Numbers 18:8-11 Yahweh said to Aaron: ‘I myself have given you charge of all that is set aside for me. Everything that the sons of Israel consecrate I give to you as your portion, as well as to your sons, by perpetual ordinance. This is what shall be yours of the most holy things, of the consecrated food: every offering that the sons of Israel give back to me, whether it be an oblation or a sacrifice for sin or a sacrifice of reparation, is a thing most holy; it shall belong to you and your sons. You may eat these most holy things, every male may eat them. You are to count them sacred.’
‘To you also shall belong whatever is set aside from the offerings of the sons of Israel to be held out with the gesture of offering; this I give to you, as well as to your sons and daughters, by perpetual ordinance. Every undefiled person in your house may eat it.
It is a sin, among church leaders, to establish what amount of tithes members must give, but only what is deemed by the hearts of them. Pastors must not oblige the members to give 10% of their salaries and income, especially if they can not bear the said amount. If they give money or not, that is not a problem. The problem is when you force them to give beyond their capacity and not in accordance to their desire.
Acts 15:6-11 The apostles and elders met to look into the matter, and after the discussion had gone on a long time, Peter stood up and addressed them. ‘My brothers,’ he said ‘you know perfectly well that in the early days God made his choice among you: the pagans were to learn the Good News from me and so become believers. In fact God, who can read everyone’s heart, showed his approval of them by giving the Holy Spirit to them just as he had to us. God made no distinction between them and us, since he purified their hearts by faith. It would only provoke God’s angers now, surely, if you imposed on their disciples the very burden that neither we nor our ancestors were strong enough to support? Remember, we believe that we are saved in the same way as they are: through the grace of the Lord Jesus.’
GOD desires love, faith and mercy towards HIM and towards our brethren, and not 10% of your salary, or your entire bank account for that matter! No material offering can please GOD, NO, not anything carnal! GOD doesn’t have a need for these things! HE wants only your pure heart and unspotted soul: admit your sins, surrender yourself to GOD, protect the orphans, give to the poor. These are just a few of the kind of offering or sacrifice the LORD GOD wants from you!
Hosea 6:5-6 This is why I have torn them to pieces by the prophets,
why I slaughtered them with the words from my mouth,
since what I want is love, not sacrifice;
knowledge of God, not holocausts.
Hebrews 13:15-16 Through him, let us offer God an unending sacrifice of praise, a verbal sacrifice that is offered every time we acknowledge his name. Keep doing good works and sharing your resources, for these are sacrifices that please God.
Luke 18:9-14 He spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being virtuous and despised everyone else. ‘Two men went up to the Temple and pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, “I thank you, God, that I am not grasping, unjust, adulterous like the rest of mankind, and particularly that I am not like this tax collector here. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on all I get.” The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beat his breast and said, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” This man, I tell you, went home again at rights with God; the other did not. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the man who humbles himself will be exalted.’
